Farewell, Gertrud. May the tacos guide your way.

Farewell, Gertrud. May the tacos guide your way.

Nothing surprising whatsoever, but ah well.
Hit “read the rest”, as usual.

386 – Minami Chiaki (Minami-ke Okaeri)
206 – Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
141 – Isayama Mei (Ga-Rei -Zero-)
97 – Futami Eriko (Kimikiss pure rouge)
75 – Hirono Nagi (ef – a tale of melodies.)

Prediction: Chiaki > Isara > Nagi > Mei > Eriko
My vote: Isara Gunther > Hirono Nagi > Minami Chiaki > Isayama Mei

This group went as expected. Despite asread fail, Minami-ke is still a very popular series in Japan. Chiaki placed first in her preliminary group as well, edging out her sister Kana. I’m surprised that Mei did so well… as an avid Yomi fan I just can’t stand her, lol.
I’m disappointed to see Nagi do so poorly… hopefully this doesn’t mean that ef will be weaker this year.

421 – Last Order (Toaru Majutsu no Index)
251 – Ikaruga Ibuki (Asu no Yoichi!)
102 – Aloe (QUIZ Magic Academy ~Original Animation~)
98 – Mori-san (Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu)

Prediction: Last Order > Ibuki > Mori-san > Aloe
My vote: Last Order > Ikaruga Ibuki > Mori-san > Aloe

Another easy win, this time for Last Order, who is moe moe moe (says MISAKA says MISAKA). Everything went as expected, minus a tiny upset by Aloe. I never really understood how people could find the QUIZ characters so likable, especially since it’s just a single-episode OVA.

365 – Kobayakawa Yutaka (Lucky☆Star OVA)
275 – Cal Devens (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~)
140 – Yuzuhara Konomi (ToHeart2 ad series)
131 – Shiro (Wagaya no Oinari-sama.)

Prediction: Yutaka > Konomi > Cal > Shiro
My vote: Abstain > Kobayakawa Yutaka

Abstained this match because the only character I’m familiar with is Yutaka, who I greatly dislike.
I underestimated Cal, seeing as I haven’t watched Phantom, but she looks cute so ah well. Overall this match is very irrelevant to me, though.

350 – Ikaruga Ayame (Asu no Yoichi!)
341 – Asakura Ryouko (Achakura Ryouko) / Ashakura (Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu / Nyoro~n☆Churuya-san)
122 – Chikura Nao (Hatsukoi Limited.)
84 – Kiri Nanami (Maria†Holic)

Prediction: Ryouko > Ayame > Nanami > Nao
My vote: Ryouko > Ayame > Nao > Nanami

Here’s the first surprise of the tournament… Haruhi character losing to a middle power?! Now, Ryouko is my favourite character from the Haruhi series, and the only Kyoani character that I support, so this came as a surprise to me. However, Ayame’s my favourite Asu no Yoichi! character, and I like her quite a bit, so I’m fine with this turn of events. It’s a shame for Nao and Nanami though, who both got overlooked…

315 – Shokatsuryou (Shuri) (Koihime†Musou)
236 – Kusugawa Sasara (ToHeart2 adplus)
197 – Kitsu Chiri (Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
122 – Kamigamo Jun (Natsu no Arashi!)

Prediction: Sasara > Chiri > Shuri > Jun
My vote: Kitsu Chiri

The only character I’m familiar with here is Chiri, so I didn’t really know what to expect here. Koihime†Musou was stronger than I thought it would be, but now that I think about it, it’s got moe lolis and probably fanservice too. Oh and apparently Jun is male. I wouldn’t know though. Although… his name is Jun…

430 – Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke (Strike Witches)
184 – Maka Albarn (Soul Eater)
135 – Kuchiki Rukia (BLEACH)
91 – Flora Skybloom (Alan Naismith) (Basquash!)

Prediction: Minna > Maka > Flora > Rukia
My vote: Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke

My favourite Strike Witches girl was lucky and got an easy road to round two. Bleach characters have never done well in JSM because people know better. Maka, while a threat, is still not enough to take on a Witch. And lastly, while I’m not familiar with the series, Basquash! seems to be a good watch, but isn’t all that popular. Either way, Minna took this one with ease.

282 – Nagase Minato (Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka)
228 – Kousaka Tamaki (ToHeart2 ad series)
217 – Fatina (Druaga no Tou ~the Sword of URUK~)
141 – Kihara Maya (Toradora!)

Prediction: Tamaki > Minato > Maya > Fatina
My vote: Nagase Minato

I was rather off here on my predictions… considering the amount of “Tama-nee” fans I see around here, I thought it would be an easy victory for her. Maybe ToHeart2 is past it’s prime…
The only character I know here is Minato, who for some reason I prefer over Yuuhi… kinda strange seeing as how I adore KugiRie tsunderekko.

444 – Sunohara Mei (CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~)
300 – Misaka’s imouto (MISAKA 10032) (Toaru Majutsu no Index)
132 – Kusakabe Misao (Lucky☆Star OVA)
71 – Sugino Ayumu (Saki)

Prediction: MISAKA > Mei > Misao > Ayumu
My vote: MISAKA > Ayumu > Mei > Misao

In the end, CLANNAD‘s strength doesn’t weaken over time, but admittedly Mei got a major boost in the second season with her onii-chan moe. Farewell, MISAKA. Luckily we still have Last Order, the remaining 19999 sisters, and Biribiri herself to avenge her. Must be nice, lol.

521 – Kataoka Yuuki (Tacos) (Saki)
253 – Gertrud Barkhorn (Strike Witches)
118 – Tenjouin Saki (To-LOVE-Ru)
73 – Akashi Kaoru (Zettai Karen Children)

Prediction: Tacos > Gertrud > Saki > Kaoru
My vote: Taco loli > Gertrud Barkhorn > Tenjouin Saki

Saki finally shows its true strength with our favourite taco loli, Yuuki. Strike Witches may be strong, but a middle-tier such as Gertrud clearly stands no chance against high-tier Saki.

265 – Hayakawa Misaki (Kemeko Deluxe!)
257 – Kagurazaka Asuna (Mahou Sensei Negima! ~Shiroki Tsubasa ALA ALBA~)
170 – Kawai Honoka (Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo)
161 – Sumeragi Kaguya (Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch R2)

Prediction: Asuna > Kaguya > Honoka > Misaki
My vote: Kagurazaka Asuna > Sumeragi Kaguya

I completely messed up my predictions here. I never would’ve expected that Kemeko Deluxe! would be strong enough to take down Asuna, and this isn’t even Kemeko herself. Kaguya also disappointed me here, since she is plenty moe and everyone’s watched Geass. Negima faction is weakening, and I cannot understand why. It may be an older series, but the manga is still ongoing and afaik has lots of readers. Maybe dissatisfaction with the anime/OVA adaptations?

315 – Nunnally Vi Britannia (Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch R2)
206 – Ran (Shugo Chara! series)
185 – Shishidou Sakura (Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo)
116 – Suou Mikoto (School Rumble San Gakki)

Prediction: Nunnally > Ran > Mikoto > Sakura
My vote: Nunnally > Mikoto > Ran

Nunnally managed to easily win this match, but not surprising since there wasn’t exactly any competition. A ‘meh’ round for me.

382 – Hoshina Utau (Tsukiyomi Utau) (Shugo Chara! series)
186 – Octavia (Tears to Tiara)
160 – Otonashi Meru (Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
140 – Houjou Kuniko (Shangri-La)

Prediction: Utau > Octavia > Kuniko > Meru
My vote: Hoshina Utau > Otonashi Meru > Octavia

Utau easily takes a win here, with no one else even coming close. Nothing out of the ordinary here; her opponents were weak.

Unfortunately, even if ef isn’t weaker this year, I doubt any of them will make it that far. Miyamura and Chihiro only made it to Groups 2 and 3 respectively; though I suppose that the top 32 isn’t that bad.

Also, I thought that I’d point out that unlike the other Jun, this one is a reverse trap, and thus, a girl.

I’d much rather have them win a match or two than outright lose by such a wide margin.

Thanks for pointing that out; haven’t watched the series yet so I don’t know. I read someone commenting on how it was a guy, so yeah. orz
